Effective Sunday 2/1/2024 the current request email accounts fs-newsr@berkeley.edu will no longer be the method for submitting new service requests, and replaced with the following Service request form:

Last year Cal's curtailment efforts saved 871,000 kWh and 1,420,000 lbs of steam in 12 days. That's the annual energy use of over 64 average US homes! This year we're shooting for over 1 million kWh and 1.5 million lbs of steam. Help us prevent this wasted energy with super easy but surprisingly impactful actions like making sure equipment and lights are shut off before you leave your room or office, and turning down thermostats and radiator valves. Use this checklist to help you make sure you get everything turned off before you leave!

However, there may be 10 – 15 minute traffic delays to allow for large tree or heavy equipment repositioning. The objective of this project is to support safe emergency evacuation on Centennial Drive if a landslide or wildfire would occur. Currently numerous trees near Centennial Dr. can fall across the road and block traffic or burn with such intensity that passage is prohibited during a wildfire.

This year the UC Berkeley Campus curtailed buildings over the winter holiday for 12 days, from December 21st through January 1st. The Energy Office worked with the EMS group, stationary engineers, and the electric shop to curtail 75 buildings. In total curtailment saved 871,000 kWh and 1,420,000 lbs of steam. Compared to the prior 12 day comparison period, electric use was 14% lower and steam use was 21% lower when normalized for weather. We're writing to you to introduce a new plan review and permit process for construction work here at UC Berkeley.
Following a year of process development by a working group from across campus, starting on July 1st, 2018, all construction projects on campus will be required to submit for and receive a permit prior to starting construction. This will apply to all to projects, including those managed by college and department facilities managers and others who contract directly with vendors or utilize their own maintenance shops...
