Custodial Services

Custodial Services provides comprehensive housekeeping and facility support for public spaces, offices, laboratories, restrooms, and classrooms across the UC Berkeley campus. Our unit delivers a wide range of cleaning, maintenance, and event-support services, caring for more than 11 million square feet of academic, administrative, athletic, and auxiliary facilities.

Custodial Services Guide

Custodial Services provides routine custodial work to campus facilities either on a Monday to Friday or Sunday to Thursday schedule. Custodial work will differ based on building as well as space type.

Custodial Services is following guidelines set forth by the Center for Disease Control (CDC) in regards to cleaning and disinfection.

The EPA has provided a helpful list of registered disinfectants effective against the novel coronavirus. Facilities Services is using approved chemical disinfectants to sanitize and disinfect high touch point areas on. Please click here for the UCB COVID19 Disinfection Guide for more information. Facilities Services staff are trained on how to properly apply the disinfectants. We are using these approved products across campus facilities.

Public Spaces

FS Custodial services Public Spaces (lobbies, hallways, center stairwells) daily in most areas around campus, five days a week, Monday through Friday or Sunday through Thursday.

Routine Public Space cleaning includes:

Carpeted Areas vacuum- Daily
Hard floor Sweep and Mop - Weekly
Emptying Trash & Recycling Cans - Daily
Restroom Cleaning- Once a day ( see services under Restrooms above)
Stairwells Sweep and Mop- Weekly
Graffiti removal- When observed and reported
Refinish hard surfaces and shampooed carpeted area- Once every Three Year. **Budget Constraint may affect this frequency

If you notice a problem with trash removal or an overflowing trash receptacle, please let us know by submitting a service request by emailing our Customer Service Center or contact your building manager.

Office Spaces

FS Custodial cleans offices on a set schedule, Monday through Friday or Sunday through Thursday. Contact your Area Custodial Supervisor or Manager for more details on the schedule.

Faculty, staff, and students in private offices should dispose of perishables in kitchen, bathroom, or hallway receptacles which are emptied once a day Monday through Friday.

Routine office cleaning includes:

Carpeted Areas vacuum - Once a Month
Hard floor Sweep and Mop - Monthly.
Emptying Trash & Recycling Cans –Once a Week
Clean Surfaces on all unencumber space- Monthly

Office cleaning is a scheduled routine service and does not require a service request. If you notice an urgent problem, please call our Customer Service Center or notify your building manager.

Conference Room/Departmental Classrooms Cleaning

FS Custodial services Conference Room/ Departmental Classrooms daily across campus, five days a week, Monday through Friday or Sunday through Thursday.

Routine Conference Room/ Departmental Classroom cleaning includes:

Carpeted Areas Vacuum - Once a Week
Hard floor Sweep and Mop – Weekly.
Emptying Trash & Recycling Cans –Weekly
Chalkboards including chalk trays - Weekly ( Whiteboards are done on Request)
Arrange Classroom Furniture – Weekly
Instructor Tables/ Podium - Weekly.

Classroom and Conference Room cleaning is a routine service and does not require a service request. If you notice an urgent problem, please call our Customer Service Center or notify your building manager.

Lab Spaces

FS Custodial services Lab Spaces daily in most areas around campus, five days a week, Monday through Friday or Sunday through Thursday.

Routine Lab Space cleaning includes:

Hard floor Sweep and Mop- Once a Week
Emptying Trash & Recycling Cans - Once a Week
Refinish hard Flooring - Once every Three Years

General Assignment Classroom Cleaning

FS Custodial cleans General Assignment Classrooms daily, five days a week, Monday through Friday or Sunday through Thursday. For a list of General Assignment Classrooms we support, please visit the General Assignment Classroom website.

Routine classroom cleaning includes:

Carpeted Areas vacuum - Daily
Hard floor Sweep and Mop - Daily
Emptying Trash & Recycling Cans – Daily
Cleaning Chalkboards - Daily
Arranging Classroom furniture - Daily
Clean Instructor Tables or Podium- Daily
Clean Surfaces on all unencumbered space. -Monthly
Refinish Hard Floor Surfaces - Once every Two years

Restroom Cleaning

FS Custodial cleans restrooms in common areas in academic and administrative spaces Monday through Friday or Sunday through Thursday.

Routine restroom cleaning includes:

Hard floor Sweep and Mop- Daily
Emptying Trash, Compost & Recycling Cans - Daily
Wash and sanitize touch surfaces - Daily
Dust Surfaces- Weekly
Refill all soap dispensers- Daily
Refill all paper dispensers- Daily
Refill menstrual product dispenser - Daily (where applicable)
Detail/ Project work of Restrooms - Twice a Year

Restroom cleaning is a routine service and does not require a service request. However, if you notice an urgent problem, contact our Customer Service Center or notify your building manager.

Recharge Work

For recharge work, please submit a recharge work order to the FS Customer Service Center.

Special requests such as additional trash cans, walk-off mats, special cleanup above and beyond established routine cleaning
