Building Maintenance Operations

Our Services

Building Maintenance Operations maintain campus buildings that total approximately 10.5 million square feet of state-funded space plus approximately 4 million square feet of auxiliary services space. This includes mechanical, electrical, and utility systems, built-in furniture, doors, windows, locks, security systems, insulation, permanent signage, glazing, painted surfaces, and roof drain systems.

Structural Services

The Structural Shop is comprised of four skilled trades:
Carpenters, Painters, Locksmiths and Glaziers.

HVAC Shop

The HVAC Shop places a priority on maintaining a comfortable working and learning environment for students, faculty and staff. The shop maintains cooling and heating equipment controls and completes repairs to all environmental systems in buildings. The HVAC Shop is comprised of three service groups - Steamfitters, Refrigeration and Insulation.

Electrical, Lighting and Support Services

Your building's electrical needs can be serviced by this shop. Senior Building Maintenance Workers (SBMWs) maintain interior lighting fixtures in classrooms, auditorium, offices, hallways, etc. and building mounted exterior fixtures.

Plumbing, Machine and Sheet Metal shop

Plumbers service restroom plumbing and fixtures, building sewer and drain lines, water faucets, drinking fountains, and heating and cooling lines of mechanical units. Machinists service and repair emergency generators, all types of fans, conveyors, compressors, and pumps. Sheet Metal workers provide service for maintenance and fabrication of almost any object formed from sheet metal

Elevator Shop

The Elevator Shop maintains and repairs nearly 350 units (including wheelchair and stage lifts) campus-wide.

Utilities Operations

The Utilities Maintenance group is responsible for the operation and maintenance of campus utilities (steam, high voltage, natural gas, water, and sewer) distribution. They perform preventive maintenance, repairs, emergency response, and all regulatory compliance work.

Watch and Night Operations

The Watch & Night Operations Group provides the campus community with 24 hour, 7 days a week service and with Stationary Engineering services.

Abatement, Insulators and Roofing Shop

Abatement provides project management for all asbestos and lead related campus projects. Our Insulators assist with the removal of asbestos and or lead containing building materials. The roofers provide inspections and repairs on roofs. They also clean roof drains, roof gutters, and downspouts, and perform waterproofing.

Motor Pool

Motor Pool maintains over 175 campus vehicles and various grounds keeping equipment.
