Building Access

Our Access Specialists manage and maintain campus-wide electronic and mechanical security systems with a focus on the safety and security of our campus community. This includes electronic locks, key card access systems, mechanical locks, keys, door security hardware, and the campus barrier pole system. Our team is dedicated to ensuring these systems remain operational, secure, and up to date.


Access Controllers

Access Controllers for individual campus divisions and departments are authorized to request the installation, modification, repair or removal of mechanical locks, other types of door security hardware and the issuance of new keys for the buildings.

In order to become or update an Access Controller, please fill out the Access Controller Request Form to notify the Access Unit of who is currently authorized to request access for the department/unit when it comes to alarms, card keys and metal keys.


Electronic Access

Authorized UC Berkeley Access Controllers may use the Electronic Access Service Request form to:

  • Add, update or remove clearances for current credential (card-key) holders
  • Change access control schedules, whether temporarily or permanently
  • Request the repair of card readers or other electronic access control devices
  • Request an estimate for the cost of a new access control device or system
  • Update Access Controller information

If we do not respond within 5 (five) business days, or you would like to check the status, make a change or cancel please send a follow-up email to fs-eaccesscontrol@berkeley.edu

For immediate review in situations involving access for disabled persons or significant risk to public safety, please also call the Electronic Access Control unit during normal business hours at 510-642-1032. After hour emergencies should also be called into 510-642-1032.

How to present your Cal 1 Card


Mechanical Lock & Key

Authorized UC Berkeley Access Controllers may use the Mechanical Lock & Key Service Request form to:

  • Purchase new metal keys
  • Arrange for the return of old and damaged metal keys
  • Request the repair of door locks or other mechanical lock & key devices
  • Request an estimate for the cost of new or modified mechanical lock & key devices
  • Apply for lock box keys

Lost or Stolen IDs or Keys

Before we can replace a lost or stolen key a police report must be filed with UCPD. To report a lost or stolen University key or credential (card-key), please contact UCPD at (510) 642-6760 (or 510-642-3333 for TTY users) at any time of day or night to file a police report.

Once you have contacted UCPD, please reach out to us at fs-eaccesscontrol@berkeley.edu to report your card or key missing.

Contact the Cal 1 Card office to replace your card.
