Upper Jordan Fire Trail Partial Closure

October 31, 2025

NOTICE: Sections of Upper Jordan Fire Trail to be closed 7:30 am – 4:00 pm, Monday, November 3, 2025 - approximately Friday, December 12, 2025

The trail will not be closed on Sundays.

This trail closure supports wildfire fuel mitigation east of the Space Sciences Lab and the Mathematical Sciences Research Institute owned by the University of California, Berkeley. Project activities will also take place along the northern portion of the Upper Jordan Trail. Total treatment area is approximately 14 acres.

The project goal is to support safe emergency evacuation and emergency access, and create defensible spaces around buildings. Currently there are numerous trees and shrubby fuels near buildings and roads that are critical fire risks to people and property. Trees can also fall and block traffic during emergencies. Treatments are designed to convert existing fire-prone trees and dead underbrush to more naturally fire resilient vegetation that will then be maintained over time. Most native trees and shrubs will be retained and pruned as needed.

This work is part of other ongoing fire management plan implementation activities in the Hill Campus.

The trail will be closed from the Space Sciences Laboratory to approximately .6 miles east down the trail. Please see below for a map of the closure.
