GIS, MAPPING, AND DRAWING

Designing, managing, and sharing intelligent spatial information.

The GIS, Mapping, and Drawing group is part of Facilities Services IT. Our group is responsible for mapping campus infrastructure, hosting the Campus Drawings Archive, maintaining building floor plans, performing room numbering reviews, and submitting requests for new building addresses.

GEOGRAPHIC INFORMATION SYSTEMS

Geographic Information Systems (GIS), is a specialized digital mapping tool that helps the University manage and understand all the physical features and assets on campus.

With GIS, we can create detailed maps that show buildings, roads, parking lots, utilities, green spaces, and more. Our maps and data support decision-making about campus facilities and infrastructure. Data that this group maintains includes:

  • Utilities

  • Building footprints

  • Landscape features

  • Emergency and safety infrastructure

  • Campus boundaries and zones

  • Accessible paths and building entrances

  • Gender inclusive restrooms

Our work products include print maps, interactive web maps, field data collection tools, and tabular data. We primarily serve Facilities Services, but sometimes collaborate with other campus administrative departments.

Web Maps

We use two platforms for sharing web maps, depending on the content and audience. We have security measures in place for both platforms. Please request access by emailing maps@berkeley.edu, and include what content you're seeking and your business use case.
